Sail Away on a weekend of relaxation and discovery along the rivers of the East Coast

May 11-12     “Beach Combing” Weekend

Join Friday evening for supper.  An early start Saturday to head down river towards East Mersea.  After lunch we have arranged a shore trip to the shingle spit at East Mersea with expert Kate Osborne from www.beachbonkers.org for a fascinating afternoon discovering the stories the beach has to tell - whether it’s egg cases of creatures we never see, driftwood eaten by hungry worms, sharks teeth and fossils that are millions of years old and glass frosted by the stones and waves.  Back on board for dinner.  Sunday we head back to Maldon perhaps with another shore trip to the magical Osea Island to put your new found skills to use.  Back Maldon 1730 Sunday. £280

MAY 18-19    Sail, Dinner, B&B Cruise

Join Saturday morning at 1200 to sail away and explore the river Blackwater, enjoying a Ploughmans Lunch as you pass Mersea Island and head towards the mouth of the river before retuning for a night anchorage off Osea Island.  You might choose to go beachcombing on Osea before a delicious dinner on board.  After breakfast on Sunday we return to Maldon at 1200. £180

JUNE 1-2  ”Girls Only” Weekend

No Chaps allowed ! Bev your mate is a qualified Yachtmaster instructor and also heaps of fun ! If you want to find out more about sailing in a supportive atmosphere, this is your chance, but if you prefer just to relax and let the world go by, that’s fine too. Join Maldon Fri eve for supper, sail about 2200 for a night anchorage off Osea Island.  Saturday head further down river, past Bradwell, Mersea Island and into the River Colne and a quiet anchorage for dinner. Return to Maldon approx. 1200 on Sunday for lunch on the Quay and depart mid-afternoon £280

JUNE 8-9 Blackwater Barge Race Weekend

Join Friday evening in Maldon for supper and soak up the atmosphere of the Quay filled with barges and crew.  Early start Saturday for the race, feel the tension as the skippers jostle for position for the start of the race off Osea Island before heading down river towards Bradwell and the outer mark.  Have your cameras ready for some exciting close up shots.  Return to the Quay Sat evening for the prize giving.  Sunday is a relaxed day sail in company with other barges returning to home ports.  Return Maldon approx. 1630  £280

JUNE 15-16    Sail Dinner, B&B Cruise

Join Saturday morning at 1100 to sail away and explore the river Blackwater, enjoying a Ploughmans Lunch as you pass Mersea Island and head towards the mouth of the river before retuning for a night anchorage off Osea Island.  You might choose to go beachcombing on Osea before a delicious dinner on board.  After breakfast on Sunday we return to Maldon at 1100. £180

JUNE 22-23    ”Summer Solstice” Weekend

Join Maldon Fri eve for supper. Watch the sunrise on Saturday morning as you take the tide down river, past Bradwell, Mersea Island and into the River Colne before finding a night anchorage to watch the sunset after dinner.  Lovely relaxing day on Sunday , returning to Maldon after tea at approx. 1600 on Sunday. £280

JULY 6-7    ”Wivenhoe Regatta” Weekend

Join Maldon Fri eve for supper. Early start Saturday morning as you take the tide down river, past Bradwell, Mersea Island and into the River Colne where you should catch the end of the Regatta races.  Follow the yachts and classics in a Parade of Sail up to Wivenhoe Quay, perhaps with a shore.  Overnight either at Wivenhoe Quay or Pyefleet Creek. Lovely relaxing day on Sunday , returning to Maldon after lunch at approx. 1530 on Sunday. £280

JULY 13-14 “Suffolk Rivers” Weekend

Join Friday evening at Harwich Ha’Penny Pier for supper – we recommend arriving earlier for a good look round this historic port town.   Two leisurely days with plenty of time to explore the beautiful rivers Stour and Orwell. Sights in the Stour include Grayson Perry’s “Julie’s House”, Holbrook School and the luxury beach huts at Wrabness.  The Orwell has large houses gracing its banks and you may anchor at Pin Mill for a shore visit – one of the most painted spots on the East Coast.  Back to Harwich after tea  at 1700 on Sunday £280

JUNE 27-28 Pin Mill Barge Race Weekend

Join Friday evening in Harwich for supper. Saturday we head down to Pin Mill and the start of the race before heading out of the River Orwell and the outer mark.  Cameras ready for some exciting close up shots.  Anchor off Pin Mill with optional shore visit for the prize giving.  Sunday is a leisurely day exploring the River Stour  before finishing back in Harwich  approx. 1700 £280

AUGUST 17-18    Sail, Dinner, B&B Cruise

Join Saturday at 1330 to sail away and explore the river Blackwater, enjoying a Cream Tea as you pass Mersea Island and head towards the mouth of the river before retuning for a night anchorage off Bradwell.  You might choose to go ashore for an explore before a delicious dinner on board.  After a hearty breakfast on Sunday we return to Maldon at 1330. £180

AUGUST 24-25  “Bank Holiday Escape” Weekend

Join Maldon Fri eve for supper, to depart early Saturday and head down river, past Bradwell, Mersea Island and into the River Colne , perhaps with some time to explore the Colne towards Wivenhoe before finding a night anchorage in Pyefleet Creek.  Return to Maldon approx. 1830 on Sunday and depart after tea £280

SEPTEMBER 6-8   ”Colne Barge & Smack Race” Weekend

Join Maldon Thurs eve for supper, sail early Friday and head down river for a relaxing day to Brightlingsea.  Saturday is race day with Smacks and Barges all squeezing out of the river for a great spectator day with fabulous photo opportunities. Optional shore visit Sat evening for the prize giving.  Sunday a relaxed sail back to Maldon departing approx. 1930 after supper £350

Join Saturday at 1300 to sail away and explore the river Blackwater, enjoying a Cream Tea as you pass Mersea Island and head towards the mouth of the river before retuning for a night anchorage off Osea Island.  You might choose to go beachcombing on Osea before a delicious dinner on board.  After breakfast on Sunday we return to Maldon at 1230. £180

OCTOBER 5-6  ”Autumn Colours” Weekend

The saltmarshes always look particularly beautiful with a low setting sun, and the winter bird visitors have started to arrive - Brent Geese honking as they fly low for a night on the Blackwater Estaury. Join Maldon Fri eve for supper, sail Sat morning and head down river. Head out to the Colne and hopefully a visit to Wivenhoe Quay before finding a quiet anchorage in Pyefleet Creek for the night.  Return to Maldon after tea at approx. 1730 on Sunday £280
